UK soft fruit consumption patterns

Raspberries

Who eats raspberries?

Raspberry consumption represents just over 17% of all soft fruit consumption

Consumption is seasonal with 54% taking place in the summer

Three quarters are consumed at a main meal, 18% at light meals and only 7% as snacks

Adult females account for 58% of all raspberry consumption, with children accounting for only 7.5%.  Children would normally account for 15% of all fruit consumption

16% of raspberries are consumed with cream, 15% with ice-cream and 17% with yogurt

 

Strawberries

Who eats strawberries?

Women over 45 are the key consumers accounting for 36% of consumption.  Men over 45 represent 25% of consumption.  Children consume 15%.  By deduction, the 17-44 year olds consume 24%.

Strawberries account for 4.7% of total fruit consumption and around three quarters of soft fruit consumption

One third are consumed at the weekend

22% are eaten with ice cream, 20% with cream and 12% with cakes and pastries
